Lack of Leadership Qualities
In life, there are certain things that are more than necessary in order to sustain the designation of leader for a leader. These are good communication skills, aptitude, mildness, gratitude, and cooperation. If these skills don’t exist within an individual and they claim to be a leader, they will only lead you to desolation where not only they but also you will be lost forever.
As an indolent student of literature, I want to critically appreciate our Chitrali leaders, who have led us through thick and thin, but I haven’t seen any spark in them, except in a few.
Chitral is a backward area, comprising a population of probably above four lac, where people blindly believe in lay individuals and elect them as leaders. After electing them, there are a lot of expectations that they would change Chitral’s destiny, striving to achieve Chitral’s due rights.
But, unfortunately, we have been regretful, frustrated, and disappointed since the inception of our affiliation. As far as our leaders’ competence is concerned, they are immensely unqualified, but luck matters a lot, and they get through in elections. Nevertheless, it creates utmost embarrassment for them; despite colossal embarrassment, they carry on. I wonder how shameless they are, that nobody has truly led Chitral and spoken out for Chitral, yet they are blissful and content with what they have.
Once, one of our leaders taunted, upbraided, and even mimicked the Prime Minister of Pakistan. He should have contemplated that he is the Prime Minister of Pakistan, and I’m an MNA, a candle in front of the sun. Another capable leader is even unable to read while looking at the paper. We, as Chitralis, are known for our hard work, and it is an emblem of it that more than 3-4 students qualify CSS every year. What kind of message do we deliver if we continue to select such ignorant, unsophisticated, and unknowledgeable individuals?
Besides, we all know the miserable condition of our infrastructure, the dilapidated bridges, unavailability of subsidies, lack of proper schooling and teachers, due to backwardness, scarcity of women empowerment, bribery, nepotism, jobbery, and one of the most pressing issues, corruption. NHA, C&W, and the rest of the departments’ incapability have created severe obstacles and hindrances in the path of development of civil masses.
Yet, our leaders are desperately awaiting their salaries and developmental funds so that they could allot them among themselves and stupidly finish them as soon as possible, without bringing it to the notice of the people. I’m not teasing them with my opinion, but these are harsh realities that nobody has yet dared to display. Either due to intimidation or lack of awareness, we have been fooled since 1969.
We must take a sensible decision if we sincerely want to change Chitral’s destiny. It is the need of the hour that we need to look at the competence and capability of an individual while casting our vote. Otherwise, the time will come when they would consider themselves the owner of the designation, meaning that the way they would treat us would be annoying and teasing, making it extremely difficult to deal with them.
