Lahore Issues Code of Conduct for Basant Kite-Flying Festival

LAHORE: The Lahore district administration has issued a strict 12-point code of conduct for the upcoming Basant kite-flying festival, scheduled to take place from February 6 to 8, following directives from the Chief Minister of Punjab.

Deputy Commissioner Lahore announced that comprehensive safety measures have been finalized to ensure public protection during the festival.

The code of conduct will be enforced throughout Lahore, including all rooftops and buildings. District administration, police, and concerned departments have been instructed to ensure full compliance with the safety guidelines, while officers have been authorized to inspect rooftops and designated areas.

Authorities stated that any violation of the Kite Flying Act and safety regulations will result in strict legal action. A zero-tolerance policy will be enforced against the use of dangerous kite strings and aerial firing.

The use of metallic, chemical, and nylon strings has been completely banned, while the installation of safety rods on motorcycles has been made mandatory across the city. Aerial firing and the use of loud sound systems that disturb public peace will also be prohibited.

Kite flying will not be allowed near airports or sensitive installations. Rooftop owners will be held personally responsible for ensuring safety arrangements and will be liable for any accidents. The use of unsafe rooftops for kite flying has been strictly banned.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that the sale and purchase of hazardous kite strings will be strictly monitored, and immediate FIRs will be registered against violators. He added that all available resources would be utilized to ensure the cultural festival is celebrated safely and responsibly.

The district administration urged citizens to cooperate with authorities and strictly follow the issued code of conduct to prevent accidents and ensure a safe Basant festival for all.
