LAHORE: Lahore has come alive in vibrant colors as the historic Basant festival returned after a 25-year hiatus, filling the skies with kites and the air with the sounds of “Bo-kata.”

The three-day festival has been described as the biggest cultural celebration of the century, reviving a long-lost tradition of the city.

According to reports from different areas of the city, enthusiasm among kite flyers reached its peak as rooftops across Lahore were packed with families and youth enjoying kite flying, traditional music, bhangra, and festive cheer. Liberty Chowk was illuminated with decorative lights, while major roads and markets were adorned like a bride, creating a mesmerizing view for residents and visitors alike.

After spending the night flying kites, Lahoris were seen gathering at popular breakfast spots early in the morning. Later, a large number of young people reached Mochi Gate to purchase kite-flying equipment, which has become scarce across the city despite rising prices.

Streets and alleys of Lahore are currently covered with colorful kites, reflecting the city’s festive spirit. To facilitate the public during the Basant festival, the Punjab government has announced special bus services on various routes. According to the Road Transport Authority, the entire city will be covered by special transport arrangements during the event.

The Punjab government confirmed that the Basant Festival will continue for three days, marking a major cultural revival and drawing widespread attention from across the province.
