ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court Bar Association has announced a three-day boycott of courts in protest against the sentencing of Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha.
The Islamabad Bar Council, High Court Bar, and District Bar have called for the strike, during which lawyers are only attending urgent cases.
Additionally, the Bar Association has barred police entry into the courts, leading to the removal of police personnel from court canteens.
Tight security arrangements have been made around the Islamabad High Court and nearby areas, with heavy police presence and armored vehicles stationed outside the court.
Lawyers staged a protest outside the Session Judge East court, led by President of the Bar Association, Naeem Gujar.
A rally was also held inside the courthouse premises. Prominent lawyers, including Dr. Babar Awan and Wajid Gilani, participated while holding banners demanding justice.
Dr. Babar Awan remarked, “Previously, judges took to the streets; now, lawyers have taken to the streets. State repression against lawyers has begun, which is harmful to society.” The protest concluded after lawyers reached the District Judicial Complex.
