ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, in their messages on Defence and Martyrs Day, paid glowing tributes to Pakistan’s armed forces and people, reaffirming the nation’s resolve to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity at all costs.
President Zardari described September 6 as a proud chapter in Pakistan’s history, symbolising the unshakable faith and courage of its people and military. He said this year’s observance carried added significance in the wake of Operation Bunyān al-Marsūs (May 2025), during which the armed forces once again displayed unmatched bravery, professionalism, and operational readiness on land, air, and sea.
“As Supreme Commander, I reiterate our commitment to continuously modernize and upgrade Pakistan’s defence capabilities,” the President said.
He stressed the importance of preparing for modern challenges, including hybrid and fifth-generation warfare, disinformation campaigns, and psychological operations, urging the youth to remain vigilant, united, and resilient.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering support for Kashmir, he called the unresolved Jammu and Kashmir dispute the root cause of instability in South Asia, and demanded its settlement in line with UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
He also denounced the ongoing atrocities in Palestine, urging the world to support the creation of an independent Palestinian state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his message, said September 6 is indelibly marked as a day of bravery, unity, and resolve in the national memory. He recalled that six decades ago, Pakistan’s valiant armed forces, with the full support of the people, crushed enemy aggression in 1965 and proved that Pakistan had both the will and the capacity to defend its sovereignty.
“The same indomitable spirit was witnessed again in the recent Battle of Haq, when our armed forces and people stood as an iron wall against external aggression,” the Prime Minister noted.
He praised the Army, Navy, and Air Force for their professionalism and modern warfighting capabilities, crediting their success to the strategic vision of Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir.
Both leaders pledged that the sacrifices of martyrs and the courage of ghazis would remain a sacred trust, vowing to pass on to future generations a strong, prosperous, and peaceful Pakistan.
