Legendary Italian Fashion Designer Giorgio Armani Is Dead at 91

MILAN: World-renowned Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani has passed away at the age of 91 due to age-related complications. According to a statement issued by his fashion house, Armani died peacefully at his residence.

Born on July 11, 1934, in a small town south of Milan, Armani initially aspired to become a doctor. However, fate led him to the world of fashion, where he revolutionized ready-to-wear clothing and redefined structured fashion. His minimalist yet elegant designs set new standards in the global fashion industry.

Armani, a prominent figure in Milan’s fashion scene, was unable to attend fashion shows in June this year due to an undisclosed illness. He had been planning to take part in Milan Fashion Week to mark the 50th anniversary of his iconic fashion house.

Unlike many of his contemporaries whose brands are owned by large fashion conglomerates like Louis Vuitton and Gucci, Armani was among the few designers who remained the sole owner of his company. At the time of his death, media reports estimated the value of his business empire at over $10 billion, placing him among the 200 richest individuals in the world.

His vast business portfolio extended beyond clothing and accessories to include home furnishings, perfumes, cosmetics, books, flowers, and even chocolates.

Armani’s death marks the end of an era for the luxury fashion industry, where his influence will continue to be felt for generations to come.
