ISLAMABAD: Minister for religious affairs Chodhry Salik Hussain has said that more time was need to make the Madressa Registration Bill into a law.
In a statement issued here, the minister said that due to some legal complications the process to make the law was taking time, but it does not mean that the whole process to make the law would be rolled back.
The Madressa Registration Bill was passed by both houses of parliament and sent to President Asif Ali Zardari who raised some objections and sent it back to the government. Over this, JUI chief Molana Fazlur Rehman has expressed concerns and warned of protests.
The minister said that like other educational institutions Madressas also come under the ministry of education. He said that after years of consultations a one-window facility was set up at the ministry of religious affairs.
The minister said that over 18,000 religious seminaries were already registered under the director general of the ministry of religious affairs and if we start the whole process afresh the efforts and resources used in the registration process would go to waste.
The government wants to continue registration of Madressas under the ministry of education while the JUI is in favor of giving the authority of registration to the district administrations.
