LAHORE: Lahore High Court has accepted the petition of former Pakistan cricket captain Babar Azam and declared the order for registering a case against him null and void.
The hearing took place on Thursday regarding allegations of sexual harassment filed by a woman against Babar Azam. Justice Asjad Javed Ghural presided over the proceedings. Babar Azam was represented by Barrister Haris Azmat, while lawyers for the federal government, Punjab government, and the complainant, Hameza Mukhtar, were also present.
Babar Azam’s lawyer argued that the complainant had previously filed a baseless petition in 2018. Between 2018 and 2020, Babar Azam gained immense fame in cricket.
The complainant had sent a notice demanding Rs 150 million in damages and alleged sexual harassment under the pretext of a marriage proposal. Barrister Haris Azmat stated that after Babar Azam denied the allegations, the complainant filed another application with the Justice of the Peace, following which the Additional Sessions Judge ordered the registration of the case. The lawyer contended that the Justice of the Peace’s order was not legally valid.
After hearing the arguments, the court cancelled the Additional Sessions Judge’s order to register a case against Babar Azam and accepted the former captain’s petition.
