London police seek extradition of murdered girl’s siblings

Petition filed in Lahore High Court on direction of the High Court of London.

LONDON: Authorities in London have started the process to seek the extradition of five step-siblings of Sara Sharif, 10, who was found dead at her house near here a few months back.

The father of deceased British minor Sara, along with his partner and brother, had been arrested by authorities soon after their arrival in the UK from Pakistan where they had been hiding in September this year.

Sara Sharif was a 10-year-old British national. Her lifeless body was discovered at her family residence in Woking, Surrey UK, on August 10.

The authorities in London have approached the Lahore High Court in Punjab seeking the handing over of the five stepbrothers and stepsisters of Sara.

The authorities moved an application on the direction of the High Court of London. The high court will now take up the murder case in September 2024.

Urfan Sharif, Beinash Batool and Urfan’s brother Faisal Shahzad Malik surrended to the police in London after returning from Pakistan after police launched a hunt for them and took into custody their children in Punjab.

Punjab police officials handed the trio over to British authorities, a day after the Child Protection Bureau took custody of Urfan’s five children in Sialkot and later interrogated them at an undisclosed location about the mysterious circumstances surrounding Sara.

However, Rawalpindi RPO Syed Khurram Ali said the absconding trio had surrendered to British authorities to join the investigation. He said the Punjab police teams had been raiding different parts of the province for their arrest.

He said a special police team had been working in Sialkot for two days, when it was tipped off about their presence at close relative’s home.
