ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has described the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye as a historic development and an important milestone in the country’s history, saying the agreement will further strengthen Pakistan’s defence capabilities.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Bilawal said the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement would help strengthen the defence capabilities of the three countries and provide a foundation for a secure and stable future for Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye.
He described the agreement as a historic document for regional and global peace, saying it represented an important step towards ensuring the security and stability of the three countries.
Bilawal also expressed appreciation for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their role in making the agreement possible.
The agreement was signed on Friday in Makkah during a summit attended by Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Under the agreement, the three countries will further expand and strengthen cooperation across all areas of defence. It also provides that an armed attack against any one of the three countries will be regarded as an attack against all three.
