Many airliners suspend flights to Israel

Suspension to Tel Aviv comes as threat of attacks from Iran grows after Haniyeh killing.

CAIRO: Many airlines have suspended their flights to Israel fearing attacks on the Zionist state from Iran and its allies as a reprisal for the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.

Haniyeh was killed in Tehran where he had gone to attend the oath taking ceremony of the new Iranian president. Following the assassination, Iran and Lebanese groups vowed to target Israel as a revenge.

Officials confirmed that many airlines have suspended their operations to the Israeli capital of Tel Aviv. These airlines included American Delta Air, United Airlines, German Lufthansa, Brussels Airlines, Swiss Air, ITA Airlines of Italy and Indian Air.

Most of these airlines have said that their flights to Tel Aviv would remain suspended till August 8.

Soon after the assassination of the Hamas leader, the US government stated that it was investigating the killing but said if Israel was attacked either by Iran or any group Washington would support Tel Aviv.
