Mass rallies mark 77 years of Palestinians’ forced displacement

Protesters demand immediate halt to killing of Palestinians and return of Palestinian land.

LONDON: Thousands of people took to the streets across London and various other UK cities to mark the 77th anniversary of the Nakba, the mass displacement of Palestinians from their homeland in 1948.

The rallies were organized to show solidarity with the Palestinian people and to call for an end to Israeli aggression. Protesters demanded an immediate halt to the killing of Palestinians, the return of Palestinian land, and urged the UK government to stop selling weapons to Israel.

Participants carried Palestinian flags and placards denouncing the Israeli occupation, calling for justice and human rights for Palestinians. Chants of “Free Palestine” echoed through the streets, reflecting growing public pressure on Western governments to change their policies regarding Israel.

In a related development, Saudi Arabia called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and categorically rejected any attempts to forcibly displace the Palestinian population. The Saudi statement emphasized the need to protect civilians and respect international law.

The Nakba, meaning “catastrophe” in Arabic, refers to the 1948 expulsion of over 700,000 Palestinians during the creation of the state of Israel. The event is commemorated every year by Palestinians and their supporters worldwide.
