WASHINGTON: Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb held discussions with global financial leaders here, aiming to boost Pakistan’s economic growth and international partnerships during the IMF–World Bank Spring Meetings.
In a meeting with Masato Kanda, President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the minister acknowledged ADB’s contributions through the Country Partnership Strategy 2026–30 and ongoing budgetary assistance.
The minister and ADB president reviewed the current project pipeline and agreed to fast-track implementation. He requested ADB to provide a partial credit guarantee to support Pakistan’s upcoming Panda bond issuance, targeting Chinese capital markets.
He also expressed confidence that Pakistan would receive further budgetary support from ADB this year and confirmed the country’s participation in the CAREC meeting scheduled for November 2025.
In another meeting, the minister briefed the Moody’s Investors Service team on Pakistan’s economic progress. He outlined strong indicators, including low inflation, primary and current account surpluses, a stable exchange rate, and record remittance inflows.
Mr Aurangzeb emphasized that the government is implementing comprehensive tax reforms, focusing on people, processes, and technology to broaden the tax base. He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to engage constructively with the U.S. administration on tariff-related issues.
