Ministers Call for Restraint on Unnecessary Comments on Foreign Policy

Say Pakistan has a clear and firm stance on its defense and diplomatic priorities.

ISLAMABAD: Senior federal ministers here on Tuesday urged politicians, media figures and analysts to act responsibly when discussing the country’s foreign policy as tensions continue to rise in the region due to the ongoing US-Iran War.

Speaking at a press conference along with Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry,  Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar said that in the current sensitive environment, public statements about foreign policy should be made with caution. He reiterated that Pakistan has a clear and firm stance on its defense and diplomatic priorities.

The law minister said Pakistan is working through diplomatic channels to address regional challenges and has effectively presented its position before the United Nations Security Council.

He was of the view that unnecessary public debate on foreign policy could create confusion at a critical time.

Tarar also stated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is in contact with leaders of regional countries and monitoring the evolving situation closely. Due to the tense circumstances, the prime minister has postponed his scheduled visit to Russia.

Attaullah Tarar criticized some online commentary, saying that certain individuals are spreading sensational narratives merely to gain more views, which could mislead international audiences.

He added that foreign policy should not be used for domestic political point-scoring, particularly during a period of heightened regional tension.
