ABU DHABI: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first Hindu temple built in the Abu Dhabi in the presence of the ruler of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Muhammad bin Zayed Anahyan.
Speaking on the occasion, the UAE minister for harmony said that the visit of the Indian prime minister was a testament to the warm and cordial relations between the two countries.
The BAPS Hindu Mandir, built on a sprawling 27-acre site in the Abu Dhabi desert, is the city’s first traditional Hindu stone mandir, its pink sandstone columns topped by seven spires representing the number of Sheikhs that rule each of the Emirates, according to media reports.
Work on the Hindu temple was started in 2018 and the red and purple stones used in the building were imported from Rajasthan in India and marbles from Italy. The temple will be open for the Hindu community on Feb 18.
