More protests; Islamabad roads blocked again

JI says its sit-in at D Chowk will continue till demands are met to give relief to inflation-hit masses.

ISLAMABAD: Roads to and from the capital city of Pakistan are again closed by placing containers as two political parties launch separate protests against rising inflation, inflated power bills and high taxes.

According to the district administration of Islamabad, Jamaat e Islami has given the call to stage a Dharna (sit-in) at D Chowk near Parliament House against skyrocketing prices of daily use items, inflated power bills and increase of taxes.

JI chief Naeemur Rehman has announced that the protest will continue till the government accepts demands including abolition of the agreement with IPPs that ate looting the power consumers, reduction in taxes on salaried class.

However, the district administration of Islamabad has said that Section 144 is imposed in capital and action would be taken against violators of the law.

Meanwhile, Tanzeem Tahafuze Aeen Pakistan of PTI has also given a call for protest across the country to protest rising inflation.

On the other hand, the administrations in Islamabad and Rawalpindi have blocked roads and suspended mobile phone service in many areas, creating problems for the residents.

It may be mentioned here that lady week, a religious group held a protest at Faizabad for about a week. As a result, many roads remained blocked. The protesters left the area after an agreement with the federal government to ensure dispatch of relief goods to the people of Gaza and raise voice against Israel.
