NADRA Implements Major Regulatory Reforms in Identity System

ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced significant regulatory reforms aimed at modernizing Pakistan’s identity management system.

According to details, the new regulations were approved by the NADRA Authority Board and subsequently published in the Gazette of Pakistan.

The reforms include a clearer definition of key terms related to national identity card regulations. A structured procedure for reviewing records to verify identity documents has also been added.

In addition, specialized Verification Boards have been established to oversee investigations, hearings, and final decisions concerning identity-related matters.

The updated regulations outline the process for disposing of abandoned or uncollected identity cards. They also provide a more explicit framework for handling cases involving individuals who possess multiple national identity cards.

New rules have been introduced for the registration of orphanages and child protection institutions. The eligibility criteria for the Pakistan Origin Card (POC) have been clarified, along with documentation requirements for verifying lineage and the rights of cardholders.

To ensure transparency in procurement, NADRA has also approved new procurement regulations.
