‎Nation Celebrates 78th Independence Day with Renewed Zeal

ISLAMABAD: ‎Pakistan marked its 78th Independence Day today with nationwide celebrations. The day began with special prayers for the country’s prosperity, unity, peace, and progress, followed by a 21-gun salute in major cities including Lahore and Quetta.

‎At midnight, celebrations erupted across the country, with streets, neighborhoods, and landmarks decorated in the colors of the national flag. Fireworks and public rallies were held in cities including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Quetta, and Multan.

‎A central ceremony was held at Jinnah Sports Complex in Islamabad, attended by President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and the chiefs of the army, navy, and air force.

Armed forces units, including the Pakistan Army, Navy, Air Force, Punjab Rangers, and FC Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, participated in a march-past. The Prime Minister also unveiled a model of the “Victory of Truth” memorial.

‎Ceremonies for the changing of the guards were held at Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi and Allama Iqbal’s mausoleum in Lahore.

‎In his message, President Zardari congratulated the nation, saying Independence Day is a reminder of courage, unity, and sacrifice. He praised the nation’s unity and professionalism in responding to recent external aggression, stating that Pakistan seeks peace but will not bow to pressure.

‎The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) issued greetings from the service chiefs, describing the day as a symbol of unity, resilience, and commitment to a bright future.

‎Despite the festive atmosphere, Karachi witnessed incidents of aerial firing during celebrations, resulting in three deaths, including a child, and over 70 injuries.

‎This year’s Independence Day also marked celebrations of the recent “Victory of Truth” against India, as described by the government and military leadership.
