ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly of Pakistan has unanimously passed a resolution reaffirming the country’s unwavering support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir in their legitimate struggle for self-determination, as guaranteed under international law and United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.
The resolution was presented in Urdu by Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Engineer Amir Muqam, and in English by Shazia Marri. The House strongly condemned India’s illegal and unilateral actions of August 5, 2019, terming them a blatant violation of international law aimed at altering the internationally recognized status of Jammu and Kashmir.
Rejecting India’s claim that the Kashmir dispute is an internal matter, the resolution emphasized that it remains a global issue requiring a just and lasting solution based on the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
The House urged the international community and the United Nations to break their silence, hold India accountable for human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), and implement UNSC resolutions calling for a free and impartial plebiscite in the region.
It denounced Indian efforts of demographic engineering, political persecution, and cultural erasure, declaring these actions as violations of the Geneva Conventions and international norms. The House observed August 5 as a black day, marking the beginning of a continued siege, human rights violations, and suppression of fundamental freedoms in IIOJK.
Tributes were paid to Shaheed Burhan Wani, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, and other Hurriyat leaders for their sacrifices. The House vowed that Pakistan will never compromise on the Kashmir cause and will continue to raise the issue at all regional and international forums.
