ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Interior, under the chairmanship of Khurram Nawaz, has rejected a bill aimed at banning dowry.

The committee met to discuss the bill, which was introduced by Member of National Assembly (MNA) Sharmila Faruqi.

The proposed bill sought to declare dowry illegal and suggested penalties for those involved in the practice. It also included a provision allowing parents to voluntarily give gifts to their children without it being considered dowry.

However, following detailed discussions, the Standing Committee on Interior unanimously rejected the bill, declaring it impractical and unfeasible to implement.
