Nawaz files petitions seeking protective bail before arrival

IHC issues notice to NAB on ex-PM's appeals in Azizia and Avenfield corruption cases.

ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and supreme leader of PML-N Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday filed two petitions seeking protective bail in two cases against him.

A bench consisting of IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb took up Nawaz’s petitions, which were filed earlier today.

The high court later issued notice to the National Accountability Bureau on the petitions in the Al-Azizia and Avenfield corruption cases.

Counsel for the PML-N leader Amjad Pervez told the court that his client was returning home on October 21 and wants protective bail in the two cases.

He contended that in the past bail had been granted by courts in similar cases to facilitate the accused or convicts to surrender to the law. Giving an example, he said PTI Chairman Imran Khan The lawyer noted that the court had also provided PTI Chairman Imran Khan had been given protective bail earlier.

He argued that his client was convicted in the cases when he was out of the country for medical treatment.

On the other hand, a NAB prosecutor said they  would give arguments when the appeal would be fixed before the court.

The hearing was adjourned till tomorrow with the notice to the government and NAB.
