Nawaz lands in Saudi Arabia on way back home

Ex-prime minister is scheduled to perform Umrah before proceeding to Dubai.

JEDDAH: Former prime minister and chief of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) Muhammad Nawaz Sharif landed at Jeddah airport from London on a Saudi Airlines flight late in Wednesday night.

A large number of party workers and supporters welcomed Mr Sharif at the airport. He will stay in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia for a few days during which he will perform Umrah.

Mr Sharif will then proceed to Dubai from where a special plane has already been chartered to fly him along with 150 party leaders and mediapersons to Pakistan on October 21.

The same day, the former prime minister is scheduled to address a public gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan.

Earlier, Mr Sharif left his Avenfield house in London for Heathrow airport where Pakistan’s high commissioner Muhammad Faisal was present to see him off. Party leaders and supporters in the UK were also present.

The PML-N supremo had left Pakistan in November 2019 for medical treatment in the UK after being granted permission by court.

He was allowed to go abroad for treatment after being jailed in a number of corruption cases registered against him by the National Accountability Court.
