ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and supreme leader of the PML-N Nawaz Sharif appeared in an accountability court and was granted bail in the Toshakhana case.
He also surrendered before the Islamabad High Court today in connection with the Al-Azizia and Avenfield cases in which his bail was extended till Oct 26. NAB was also issued notice for the same day.
Before accountability judge Muhammad Bashir, Mr Sharif also filed an application seeking unfreezing of his property. The accountability court on October 19 had suspended his perpetual arrest warrants.
The high court had already suspended his arrest warrants and granted him bail till today. The relief was provided after a petition was filed by his lawyers a few days before his return from abroad.
The petition stated that Nawaz Sharif was returning home and would surrender before the court in connection with the Al-Azizia and Avenfield corruption cases.
The former prime minister was convicted and disqualified from holding public office for 10 years in the corruption cases.
He had filed appeals against the verdicts in these cases but the appeals were dismissed after he did not appear in the court.
Now he has filed petitions seeking restoration of the appeals and adjudication against the verdicts.
Mr Sharif returned from self-exile in the UK after about four years on October 21. He addressed a public gathering in Minar-e-Pakistan Lahore the same day.
On Monday, Mr Sharif reached at his home im Murree from where he would reach the federal capital to appear in the high court on Tuesday.
In this regard, the capital police have made security arrangements in the city and on the premises of the court.
A large number of party leaders and workers are expected to accompany him during his appearance in the court.
