Alert Issued: Heavy Rainfall, Storms Expected Across Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert warning of heavy rainfall and stormy conditions in various parts of Pakistan from today until August 30.

According to the NDMA, three separate weather systems responsible for rain are entering the country simultaneously. Several cities in Islamabad, Azad Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Punjab are at risk of flooding in low-lying areas. There is also a serious risk of landslides in mountainous regions.

In Sindh, coastal districts including Karachi, Thatta, Badin, and Tharparkar, among others, are expected to receive rainfall between August 27 and 30. Similarly, stormy rains are anticipated in Balochistan’s Lasbela, Khuzdar, Kalat, and Gwadar districts. The NDMA has cautioned that flash floods in rivers and streams pose a threat to nearby communities.

Water flow in the Indus River at points like Taunsa, Guddu, and Kalabagh may increase up to 500,000 cusecs, raising concerns of potential flooding in adjacent areas.
