ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority has warned of more cloudbursts in the coming week.
In a TV interview, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider warned that more cloudbursts may occur in the coming weeks.
He said that over the next two to three weeks, additional cloudbursts could take place, potentially creating situations similar to those recently experienced in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
Mr Haider added that northern Punjab, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan are at risk of further cloudbursts over the next three to four weeks.
Northern areas of Pakistan are currently facing heavy rainfall and saturated ground conditions, which have significantly increased the risk of floods and landslides. Local authorities are on high alert, closely monitoring rivers, streams, and hill slopes for potential overflow and soil erosion.
Residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to move to safer locations, while emergency services are preparing evacuation plans and relief measures. The combination of recent cloudbursts and ongoing rainfall has made northern regions particularly susceptible to flash floods and road blockages.
Recent heavy rains, floods, landslides, and lightning strikes in KP have claimed the lives of 328 people, with dozens more injured.
A few weeks ago, Gilgit-Baltistan experienced a cloudburst that triggered severe rainfall. Subsequent floods and landslides resulted in multiple fatalities.
He urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert and take necessary precautions as the risk of further extreme weather remains high.
