Netely Baker Highlights Growing Trade and Partnership with Pakistan
ISLAMABAD: U.S. Chief of Mission in Pakistan Netely Baker visited Sialkot to observe Pakistan’s export manufacturing industries, interact with local business leaders, and attend a luncheon hosted by the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad stated that during her visit, Baker praised Sialkot’s dynamic business community and highlighted the potential for increased U.S.-Pakistan trade and investment, which could lead to mutual prosperity.
At the luncheon, Baker addressed Sialkot’s industrialists and emphasized the depth of bilateral trade relations. She noted that U.S.-Pakistan trade was projected to exceed $8 billion in 2025, reflecting a strong foundation for further growth. She described this as a testament to the positive impact of American economic engagement in Pakistan and globally.
Baker stressed that the U.S. aims for a fair and balanced trade relationship with Pakistan to generate prosperity for both countries. The United States has been Pakistan’s largest export market and a key investor for over two decades.
During her visit, Baker toured prominent local companies such as Forward Sports, First American Corporation Limited (FAC), and CA Sports, globally recognized names in Sialkot’s sporting goods sector. She also visited Sialkot International Airport and met with leaders of AirSial. According to the U.S. Embassy, these meetings underscored the importance of U.S.-Pakistan collaboration in global supply chains, job creation, and trade-led economic development.
Approximately 70% of FAC’s exports go to the U.S., reflecting strong American demand. Baker said the U.S. remains committed to leveraging technology, innovation, and business expertise to create jobs and strengthen communities in both countries.
Her visit coincided with the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Declaration of Independence, marking not only a moment of reflection on the past but also a commitment to future innovation, trade, and global leadership.
Baker also mentioned the U.S. “American Decade of Sports” initiative, emphasizing efforts to strengthen partnerships through sports and commerce.
