ISLAMABAD: Ambassador of Italy to Pakistan Marilina Armelin on Thursday called on Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and discussed different issues related to the two countries.
One of the issues raised by the Italian ambassador during the meeting related to illegal migration of workers to her country.
The minister told the envoy that no compromise will be made on human smuggling, adding that all possible measures were being taken to curb the practice.
The minister said that legal migration of skilled labor will help in discouraging human smuggling. He said Italy could benefit from the services of skilled Pakistani human resource in different fields.
Mr Naqvi added that there was a need for both the countries to jointly work to stop drug trafficking and human smuggling.
It may be mentioned here that illegal migration from Pakistan to different countries has increased in recent years in which agents of human smugglers are actively involved.
Scores of people have also lost their lives while trying to enter European countries. According to reports, thousands of Pakistanis are languishing in jails in Saudi Arabia and other countries after being caught for entering these countries illegally.
During the last a couple of years, a large number of Pakistani illegal migrants have also been deported grom different countries.
