MUZAFFARABAD: Political tensions are rising in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) as Law Minister Mian Abdul Waheed confirmed that a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq is set to be tabled within the next week.

In an interview with a TV channel, the law minister said that ongoing consultations among key stakeholders to address governance challenges had slightly delayed the move, but the procedure for the motion has now been finalized.

According to party sources, several lawmakers allied with Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry have recently joined the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), boosting its strength in the AJK Legislative Assembly to 27 members.

Insiders further revealed that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will make the final decision on when to formally submit the motion.

Earlier, both the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the PPP agreed to push for Anwarul Haq’s ouster. However, the PML-N has stated it will not join any new coalition government, opting instead to sit in the opposition.

Meanwhile, senior PPP leaders Chaudhry Yasin and Chaudhry Latif Akbar are emerging as strong contenders for the post of AJK Prime Minister once the motion is carried.
