NEW YORK: Community leaders and representatives at a conference here were of the unanimous opinion that there was no room for hatred in society and people belonging to different religions and faiths should live together in peace and harmony.
The Council of Peoples Organization (COPO) had arranged the conference on ‘Interfaith Harmony’ at its office in Coney Island, Brooklyn, in which besides Muslims representatives of Christian and Jewish communities participated.
Speaking on the occasion, COPO chief Muhammad Rizvi said that they have been working for the promotion of harmony in society in collaboration with people belonging to different religions and faiths without any regard to their religious affiliations. He said we have been working for over 20 years for building relations with communities.
Jews community representatives on the occasion that there were differences in teachings and believes of every religion, but these differences should not be allowed to turn into hatred against each other.
“We have built a relationship in which members of our communities have traveled together, they have lived together, they have partnered in innumerable projects together. We need to bring people of diverse communities closer and build a more tolerant society,” they added.
The speakers, including the president of the New York Police Officers Association’s President Adeel Rana, stressed the need on building bridges in society. He said dialogue should be promoted especially among the youth to remove misunderstandings. Religious differences should never come in the way of peace, tolerance and harmony in society, they added.
