ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has assured that there is no shortage of petroleum products in the country, stating that reserves are sufficient for 28 days.
He added that LPG stocks are available for another 15 days, while LNG imports from Qatar have been temporarily suspended but domestic gas will meet demand.
According to the ministry, a meeting of the Standing Committee on Finance was held under the chairmanship of Saleem Mandviwalla, where members were briefed on the country’s economic situation.
The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, the Governor of the State Bank, and senior officials from the Ministry of Finance.
The finance minister informed the committee that the prime minister has formed a special committee to monitor petroleum supplies on a daily basis.
He said the committee is working actively and key decisions will be taken promptly. Petroleum reserves are available until the end of March, and supply will be regulated where necessary. The government will also take measures to conserve energy.
Addressing concerns over regional tensions, Aurangzeb said the government is prepared to respond to any potential impact if the situation persists.
He further clarified that the departure of the IMF mission was an institutional decision by the fund, and negotiations with the IMF are ongoing. He emphasized that petroleum products are currently available in sufficient quantities and there is no need for fuel rationing. The matter will be managed through improved coordination and discipline.
The minister reiterated that the country has a 28-day cover for petroleum products, crude oil stocks for 10 days, and LPG supplies for 15 days. Although LNG imports from Qatar have been halted, domestic gas production will compensate for the shortfall.
The government is also considering alternative energy sources to ensure uninterrupted supply.
