PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has canceled all No Objection Certificates (NOCs) issued for unbuilt hotels and commercial land along riverbanks.
The decision came in the wake of recent floods in Swat, Malakand, and Hazara divisions, which highlighted the risks posed by unregulated constructions near rivers.
The DG of Land Use and Building Control Authority (LUBCA) has issued a directive to all Chief Planning Control Officers regarding the cancellation.
All NOCs for commercial constructions where work has not yet begun have been revoked. Some NOCs had previously been issued without proper verification by the relevant Tehsil Municipal Administration.
DG LUBCA Khizr Hayat Khan stated that, under the instructions of the Chief Secretary, the new NOCs will be issued according to the Building Control Regulations 2024.
Before starting any construction near riverbanks, developers will now need NOCs from the Irrigation Department, and existing or ongoing constructions will also undergo checks to ensure compliance.
This move is part of a broader effort by the KP government to prevent flood-related damages and regulate construction along vulnerable riverbanks.
