NEW YORK: A powerful snowstorm has severely disrupted daily life across the northeastern United States, prompting emergency declarations and widespread travel chaos.
Heavy snowfall blanketed major states including New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, covering roads with thick layers of snow and drastically reducing visibility due to strong icy winds. Authorities reported dangerous driving conditions, urging residents to remain indoors unless travel is absolutely necessary.
According to the National Weather Service, 4.3 inches of snow were recorded in New York City’s iconic Central Park, marking the heaviest snowfall since January 2022. The extreme weather significantly impacted air travel, with more than 2,100 flights cancelled across multiple airports in the region.
In response to the worsening conditions, New Jersey declared a state of emergency, while winter storm and snow warnings were officially issued for New York State and Connecticut. The Governor of New York also announced a state of emergency, citing public safety concerns.
Emergency services and municipal crews remain actively engaged in snow removal and rescue operations. However, meteorologists have warned that additional snowfall could further complicate the situation in the coming hours.
Residents across the affected states have been strongly advised to avoid non-essential travel and follow official safety guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries.
