NEW YORK: The New York Police Department (NYPD) is rolling out its largest security operation of the year to safeguard the 2025 TCS New York City Marathon, Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch announced during a press briefing on Wednesday.
Commissioner Tisch said officers will be stationed along every stretch of the 26.2-mile course, ensuring safety from start to finish. She emphasized that public safety remains the department’s top priority.
“Our teams are ready. Runners and spectators should expect to see officers and specialized units positioned throughout the city,” Tisch said.
The NYPD’s operation includes collaboration with federal, state, and local agencies, including the FBI, Department of Homeland Security, and FDNY.
Specialized Units on Alert
The department’s Counterterrorism Bureau, Bomb Squad, and Aviation Unit will remain on high alert throughout race day. Drones will monitor the skies, while vehicle barriers and screening checkpoints will secure key entry points.
Tisch explained that these layered measures are designed to detect and deter threats before they materialize.
Public Urged to Stay Vigilant
The Commissioner urged New Yorkers to play their part by staying alert. “If you see something, say something,” she reminded. “Every report helps us keep this event safe for everyone.”
The NYPD encouraged marathon attendees to arrive early and comply with security screenings to ensure smooth entry into viewing zones.
Showcasing New York’s Spirit
The marathon will draw over 50,000 runners from around the globe and hundreds of thousands of spectators. Despite the extensive security presence, Tisch said the event’s spirit remains unchanged—focused on community, resilience, and unity.
“This race celebrates the strength and diversity of our city,” Tisch said. “It’s a day when New Yorkers and visitors come together to share in something extraordinary.”
