SRINAGAR: A political controversy has emerged over the alleged transfer of development funds earmarked for Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) to the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
Reports from the Kashmir Media Service indicate that Ghulam Ali Khatana, a Member of Parliament from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), redirected a major portion of the allocated development funds to Uttar Pradesh.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah sharply criticized the move, calling it a “gross injustice” to the Kashmiri people. He stated that out of 115.2 million assigned for Jammu and Kashmir, 105.8 million was reportedly spent in Uttar Pradesh, while the region continues to face serious economic and infrastructural challenges.
Abdullah accused the BJP of prioritizing other states over Kashmir, highlighting a stark contradiction between its electoral promises and its actions on the ground.
Political analysts say the alleged fund diversion raises pressing questions about transparency, governance, and equitable distribution of resources in Jammu and Kashmir.
