LAHORE: On the first day of the Basant festival in Lahore, one person was killed and five others injured in separate incidents.
According to rescue officials, Ali Rasheed, 25, died in Baghbanpura near Sikh Canal after climbing an electric pole to retrieve a stuck kite and getting electrocuted.
In Defence Phase 5, a young man named Rafay was injured when a kite string got entangled around his neck. Similarly, in Gulshan Ravi, an 8-year-old girl Arsa and 45-year-old Shabbir were hurt due to kite strings.
Additionally, Abdul Waheed, 12, was injured while retrieving a kite in Lower Mall, and Salman, 14, got injured in Gulshan Ravi while trying to get a kite from a tree.
Rescue authorities have urged the public to exercise caution during the festival, as kite flying remains a major safety hazard.
