NEW MEXICO: A pre-dawn shooting at a university dormitory complex in the U.S. state of New Mexico left one person dead and another seriously injured, prompting a full lockdown of the campus and an ongoing manhunt for the suspect.
According to international media reports, the shooting occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. local time. Upon arriving at the scene, campus police found two individuals with gunshot wounds. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
In an official statement, university officials confirmed the incident and urged students and staff to remain vigilant. A second emergency alert was issued around 6:00 a.m. via social media, advising all individuals on campus to shelter in place and avoid the area.
“Multiple law enforcement agencies are on-site, and the investigation remains active,” the university stated.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims or disclosed a motive for the attack. The suspect remains at large, and a large-scale search operation is underway.
The university has suspended all classes and campus activities until further notice.
