ISLAMABAD: Opposition parties have strongly condemned the sentences handed down to former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in the Toshakhana-II case, calling the verdict unjust and against the principles of law.
At a press conference in the KP House in Islamabad, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar warned that such rulings could create unrest among the public.
Mahmood Achakzai, head of Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Aain, criticized the decision, stating that punishing those who speak for justice is itself an injustice and highlighting widespread corruption in the country.
Akhtar Mengal questioned why previous Prime Ministers allegedly misused Toshakhana without facing punishment, describing the verdict as a clear example of unfairness.
Allama Nasir Abbas said the decision exposed the failure of the justice system and undermined public confidence in the Parliament, while Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar pointed out that not only PTI leaders but also activists like Iman Mazari have faced legal actions for raising public concerns.
Firdous Shamim Naqvi suggested that PTI may consider boycotting courts due to false verdicts and criticized the ruling as unconstitutional and inhumane.
Zubair Umar expressed disappointment over the sentences given to senior leaders without clarity on their alleged crimes, raising concerns over the credibility of the judiciary.
The opposition leaders stressed that the verdict reflects selective justice and indicates that the legal and constitutional system is being manipulated for political purposes.
