ISLAMABAD: Political tensions escalated in Islamabad as opposition parties continued their protest sit-ins inside Parliament House and at KP House, demanding that the founder of PTI be transferred to a hospital for medical treatment.
Several opposition leaders are participating in the protest inside Parliament House, including Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Raja Nasir Abbas, and Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, along with other members of parliament. The leaders have vowed to continue the sit-in until their demands are accepted.
Addressing the protest, Mahmood Khan Achakzai alleged that more than 100 members of parliament were effectively being held “captive” inside the premises. He stated that the opposition would not be intimidated and would maintain the sit-in regardless of whether the government initiates dialogue.
“If our demands are not met, we will continue the protest even during Ramadan. We will observe our fasts and offer Taraweeh prayers here,” he said.
Achakzai further revealed that he had written to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, proposing a panel of three doctors to examine the PTI founder, but claimed that no action had been taken on the request.
According to opposition leaders, they plan to continue the sit-in until the PTI founder is shifted to Al-Shifa Hospital for treatment, stressing concerns over his eyesight and overall health.
Meanwhile, a large number of opposition figures have also gathered at KP House, including Ali Amin Gandapur and Sohail Afridi, where the protest camp remains active.
Heavy police deployment has been observed at both locations to prevent any untoward incidents.
