ISLAMABAD: A large number of people from Balochistan protesting against “enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings in the province” have complained that over 100 of the protesters were picked and kept in undisclosed locations since they staged a sit-in the federal capital a few days ago.
The long march led by Baloch women — which started in Turbat on December 6 after the alleged “extrajudicial killing” of a Baloch youth by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) officials — had reached the federal capital on Wednesday. However, the police had blocked entry points of the city along with major arteries to prevent the protesters from reaching the NPC.
Police in Islamabad took over 200 of the protesters, including women, into custody after using tear gas, water cannons and batons on them on Thursday night.
Baloch Yakjehti Committee, which has organized the protest, in a statement issued on Saturday condemned the police high-handedness against the protesters in Islamabad and gave the government three days to release the protesters and quash cases against them.
Earlier, President Arif Alvi had called caretaker Prime Minister, who is also from Balochistan, to release the protesters, but to no avail.
The protesters said that their protest sit-in would continue in Islamabad till the government removed their grievances.
