ISLAMABAD: The caretaker government has issued 49 visas to international media person to cover the February 8 general elections whilst 32 more are in the process of being issued.
This was stated by caretaker minister for information Murtaza Solangi while addressing a press conference here along with secretary information Shahera Shahid and other officials.
Moreover, he added, Pakistan’s High Commission in India has received 24 applications which are being processed, adding a total of 174 applications have been received from various foreign media outlets.
These are apart from several international media outlets such as CNN, BBC, DW who already have their representatives in Pakistan.
The international observers and media reporters will be cover the elections on national and provincial assembly seats on February 8.
He said besides the media persons, applications have been received from 24 observers Britain, eight from Russia, thirteen from Japan, five from Canada, two from South Africa and five from Commonwealth.
The foreign journalists will cover the elections in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.
Local journalists are also being provided with accreditation cards for coverage of the general elections and so far 6,000 cards have been issued, the caretaker minister said.
