WASHINGTON: Over 30,000 employees of the aircraft making Boeing company have gone in a strike demanding an increase in their salaries.
The employees went on the strike after rejecting an agreement reached between the Boeing company and the employees union.
Under the agreement, the company was to increase the salaries by 25pc in four years. The offer was rejected by 95pc of the employees in a voting, according to media reports.
The employees rejected the 25pc offer as the union had set the target of 40pc increase before it started negotiations with the company. The protesting employees were chanting slogans in support of their demands, including “No pay, no planes”.
The company and the union had signed a contract in 2008 which expired in 2014. The agreement was then extended which now has expired again.
The employees said that they would continue their protest till acceptance of their demand of raising the salaries in accordance with the inflation.
A company official told media that they were holding talks with the representatives of the employees to resolve the matter.
