Over 500 Pakistanis kept in detention centers in Myanmar

ISLAMABAD: More than 500 Pakistanis have reportedly been kept in illegal detention in Myanmar and are used as bonded labors by their captors.
Dozens of Pakistani women are also in the forced detention in Myanmar. In the camps, Pakistanis were also being tortured and forced to commit illegal financial crimes, a Senate functional committee was informed here.
Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Thailand Rukhsana Afzal said that 11 Pakistanis tried to escape from captivity, out of which six managed to flee and were sent to Pakistan while the remaining five were missing and their whereabouts were not known.
She said the captors called the Pakistani youth to Bangkok by luring them with good jobs through social media and sent them to Myanmar when they reached there.
She said that there were scheme compounds in Myanmar where once you get trapped there is no way to get out.
On the other hand, Deputy Chairman Senate Saidul Khan Nasir said the government will ensure the return of Pakistanis stranded in Myanmar.
