Over 60 migrants drown as ship capsizes near Libya

Survivors say boat carrying 86 people had departed Libyan city of Zwara, about 110 km (68 miles) from Tripoli.

TRIPOLI: At least 61 migrants drowned when a ship carrying over 86 people capsized of f the coast of Libya, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said while quoting survivors.

The ship had departed Zwara city of Libya from the capital city of Tripoli and was carry 686 people, it added. The drowned migrants included women and children, it said in a post on X.

The identification of the victims including their nationalities are yet to be ascertained and rescuers were on the sea looking for more survivors.
