QUETTA: More than 700 terrorists were killed during 90,000 intelligence-based operations carried out across Balochistan over the past year, provincial officials said on Tuesday.
However, over 400 security personnel and civilians also lost their lives during the counterterrorism campaign.
Addressing a joint press conference in Quetta, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Balochistan Hamza Shafqat and Deputy Inspector General of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Aitzaz Ahmed Goraya said security forces intensified covert operations to curb militant activities across the province.
Shafqat stated that a noticeable decline in terrorist incidents was observed during the last three months of 2025. He also announced the establishment of a new institution, the National Forensic and Technical Investigation Commission (NAFTIC), which is expected to become fully operational in all districts of Balochistan by March.
He further said that the entire province has now been declared an “A Area,” a move aimed at expediting security operations and improving law enforcement response.
One of the major revelations during the press conference was the arrest of Sajid Ahmed, also known as Shavez, a former faculty member of Turbat University and a graduate of the International Islamic University, Islamabad. According to DIG CTD Aitzaz Goraya, Sajid is a resident of Turbat and was affiliated with a proscribed terrorist organization.
Officials said Sajid was involved in reconnaissance, facilitation, and recruitment of youth in Turbat. At the time of his arrest, authorities recovered advanced weapons, a suicide jacket, and a large quantity of ammunition from his vehicle, which was being transported from Panjgur to Turbat.
Investigations revealed that Sajid had met with a banned organization’s commander, Dostain, in Afghanistan. Authorities also claimed that he had links with the Baloch Yakjehti Committee, while the recovered weapons had been smuggled into Pakistan from Iran.
