ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday revealed that overseas Pakistanis have remitted a record $34.9 billion so far during the current fiscal year, marking a 28.8 percent increase over the previous year.

In a message on the International Day of Family Remittances, the Prime Minister said this substantial rise in remittances is a clear reflection of the unwavering trust and commitment of expatriate Pakistanis toward their homeland.

He added that such financial contributions are not only vital for families back home but also serve as a powerful pillar of Pakistan’s economic resilience.

“This trust reinforces our resolve to redouble efforts for the revival and growth of our economy,” the Prime Minister said, reaffirming the government’s ongoing initiatives to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) and expand the export base to ensure long-term economic stability.

He paid tribute to the overseas Pakistani community, acknowledging their remittances as more than just monetary transfers. “They reflect an enduring bond with the homeland — a bond of trust, commitment, and generational responsibility,” he stated.

Highlighting the significance of the day, Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan joins the international community in honoring migrant workers whose hard-earned remittances continue to drive development in their countries of origin. He described these contributions as a cornerstone of the national economy.

The Prime Minister concluded by expressing gratitude to the global Pakistani diaspora, praising their sacrifices and consistent support in strengthening Pakistan’s economy.
