Pakistan Achieves Milestone with Launch of EO-2 Satellite
RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s space agency, SUPARCO, has successfully launched its second locally developed electro-optical satellite, EO-2, marking a key milestone in the country’s space program.
According to a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the satellite was launched from the Yangjiang Satellite Launch Center in China.
EO-2, developed and integrated entirely at SUPARCO’s Satellite Research and Development Center, is a testament to Pakistan’s growing expertise in satellite technology, particularly in systems engineering, payload integration, and satellite research.
The satellite will work alongside EO-1 to observe Earth’s surface under various lighting conditions, enabling enhanced interpretation of surface features, identification of changes, and continuous imaging.
The successful launch of EO-2 strengthens Pakistan’s Earth Observation Satellite fleet, increasing the availability of critical data for national planning, governance, and resource management. The satellite’s capabilities will also aid in improving the country’s preparedness for natural disasters and better management of agricultural and environmental resources.
A spokesperson said the development of locally designed and reliable space systems represents significant progress in Pakistan’s space technology sector and will play a crucial role in the country’s future advancements in space exploration.
