KABUL: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited Kabul on a one-day official trip and met with Afghan Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani.
During the meeting, both sides agreed to work together on fighting terrorism and improving border management.
Interior Secretary Khurram Agha and other senior officials were also present at the meeting.
The two sides discussed ways to strengthen ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan. They talked about taking joint action against the banned group Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), improving control of the shared border, stopping drug smuggling, and managing cross-border movement more effectively.
Both ministers agreed that terrorism is a serious threat and must be addressed through close cooperation. They also spoke about the ongoing process of returning undocumented Afghan citizens from Pakistan.
Mohsin Naqvi said that Pakistan had hosted millions of Afghan refugees for decades and continues to allow legal entry for Afghan citizens. He emphasized that Pakistan wants friendly and lasting relations with Afghanistan.
The ministers stressed that improved coordination at border crossings could help prevent illegal movement while ensuring smoother travel for those with valid documents. They also discussed using technology to monitor the border more effectively and proposed regular meetings between border security forces.
This meeting comes at a time of rising cross-border tensions and increased terrorist incidents in Pakistan’s border regions. Both countries acknowledged that regional peace depends on mutual trust, stronger communication, and practical cooperation on security matters.
