Trade Adviser Abdul Razzaq Dawood has said that the Pak-Afghan Transit Trade Agreement will be finalized by the end of January next year and there will also be a preferential trade agreement with Afghanistan.
A joint meeting of the 8th Afghanistan-Pakistan Transit Trade Coordination Authority has started in Islamabad. Addressing the inaugural function and later talking to media, Trade Adviser Abdul Razzaq Dawood said that the war in Afghanistan has affected bilateral trade due to border closures. The border is being worked on for uninterrupted supply of goods to India. It is hoped that the transit trade agreement will be finalized by the end of January. At present, only bilateral trade is being discussed.
The trade adviser said the Pakistani delegation would visit Kabul next month to sign a transit trade agreement. The current three-day talks would not consider the delivery of Indian goods.
On this occasion, Afghan Minister for Commerce Nisar Ahmad Faizi said that both countries have to separate politics from trade. Afghanistan wants to give Pakistan access to Central Asian states. Several obstacles to transit trade have been removed but some sensitive issues must be resolved.
The Afghan Minister of Commerce said that both Muslim countries have the potential to formulate effective trade strategies, the two countries can establish a common interest point, while the trade agreement will help peace efforts.
