Pakistan and Armenia Establish Diplomatic Relations

BEIJING: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has announced the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Armenia.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Ishaq Dar said that he and Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan signed a joint communiqué to establish diplomatic ties between the two countries during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit held in Tianjin, China.

According to Ishaq Dar, both foreign ministers reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter and agreed to strengthen cooperation in various sectors, including the economy, education, culture, and tourism.

The establishment of diplomatic relations is expected to open new avenues for dialogue and collaboration, potentially fostering peace and economic growth in the South Caucasus and South Asia regions. Experts believe this move could also contribute to regional stability by encouraging peaceful engagement between neighboring countries.

It is worth noting that the announcement follows recent telephone talks between Ishaq Dar and Armenia’s foreign minister. The spokesperson for Pakistan’s Foreign Office had previously confirmed that the two countries had agreed to explore the establishment of diplomatic relations.

This development marks a significant step toward enhancing bilateral cooperation and regional stability.
