NEW YORK: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his British counterpart Keir Starmer at a meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly exchanged views on boosting bilateral ties, including trade and investment.
They also discussed current international situation especially the war in Gaza and the role of the UN towards resolution of the issue to restore peace in the region.
Mr Sharif spoke about the challenges being faced by Pakistan such as the menace of terrorism and climate change disasters.
He said in the fight against terrorism his country has lost over 80,000 lives abd was still grappling with the impacts.
He said that to meet the challenges of economy his government had taken a number of steps due to which the situation was improving fast and international lenders’ confidence had been restored.
He said Pakistan had also taken a number of steps to attract foreign investment. UK has been third largest investor in Pakistan, he said, adding that investment opportunities and projects were available in the country.
The British Prime Minister acknowledged the role of Pakistan in the fight against terrorism as well as in peacekeeping in conflict zones in the world. He also said that Pakistani diaspora in Britain were playing an active part in the country’s development.
He said his government was keen to promote trade relations with Pakistan.
